4 medals in the Grenaches du Monde Competition
On February 6th we were informed that four of our wines received awards in the Grenaches du Monde Competition, celebrated in Zaragoza this year. We were overjoyed!
Airam, our beloved sweet Grenache made in the solera method, received the highest distinction with one of what were only nine gold medals awarded to DO Empordà wines. But it doesn't end here, as our Garnatxa de l'Empordà (another sweet wine) and Garnatxa Old Vines each received a silver medal, and it was rounded-out with a bronze medal for our Lledoner Roig. We couldn't be happier. Our faith in the Grenache grape and our belief in the need to produce wines taking into account their sense of place (whether it's the soils, the climate or the way vines are tended to), is reaffirmed everyday as the correct path to follow.
The Grenaches du Monde competition started four years ago with the objective of showcasing Grenache as a quality grape and to promote wines made with this variety. Only wines made with a minimum 60% of Grenache--or Lledoner as we call in Empordà--can participate in the competition. They can be still wines, sparkling, fortified, dessert… It is, as we've stated many times before, a grape with endless possibilities.
Some of the best news from this year's Grenaches du Monde competition were the excellent results by wines from DO Empordà, which obtained a total of 18 medals. This was great recognition for one of our regional passions: Grenache.
