The visit to Mas Espelt allows you to learn more about our history, our project and our way of working the vineyard and understanding wine, always linked to the territory and the ecosystem that surrounds us.

You will discover how we work respecting the biodiversity of the environment and you will get to know the landscape that shapes our wines up close.

At Mas Espelt, we will enjoy a guided tasting of a selection of our premium wines: Mosaic, Quinze Roures, Comabruna and Les Elies, paired with a selection of local cheeses and cured meats, while enjoying the sunset over the vineyards of our family estate.

The activity can be shared with other visitors and can be done in different languages, an opportunity to share the experience with people from all over the world.

Remember to wear comfortable shoes and come prepared for the cold or the sun depending on the time of year.

Where does the activity take place?

Mas Espelt – At the foot of the Serra de Verdera or Serra de Rodes, Mas Espelt stands in the middle of the wine-growing landscape of the Empordà. An 18th-century farmhouse, surrounded by vineyards, where today we host our wine tourism activities in Vilajuïga.

The Mas has the Sala Airam, an intimate space for tastings of up to four people, and a large dining room with capacity to accommodate a table of up to 26 people. It is here that we explain the family legacy and the origins of the Espelt Viticultors project, with two key figures: Lluís Espelt and Anna Espelt. The privileged location of Mas Espelt offers extraordinary views over the territory. From here we can contemplate the sea, Montgrí, les Gavarres, Montseny, Rocacorba, Alta Garrotxa, les Salines, les Alberes, the Rodes mountain range and Cap de Creus.

SUNSET AND WINE TASTING IN CAP DE CREUS (ROSES)

At the heart of the Cap de Creus Natural Park, the Balcó de Mas Marès is a privileged viewpoint overlooking the Bay of Roses and a starting point for discovering the relationship between the landscape, the vineyards and the wine.

We will learn how the geography, geology and history of Cap de Creus shape our wines and explore Mas Marès’ regenerative agriculture project. We will also learn about the work we have been carrying out for more than twenty years to restore the agroforestry mosaic, a landscape of vineyards, scrubland, pastures, cork oaks and dry-stone walls that supports biodiversity and protects the land from wildfires.

We will end the visit at the Balcó de Mas Marès with a guided tasting of Espelt wines, paired with seafood products from Pescadors de Roses and cheeses, while watching the sunset over the Bay of Roses.

The activity may be shared with other visitors and may take place in different languages, offering an opportunity to share the experience with people from around the world.

The Mas Marès Mosaic

For more than twenty years, we have been working to restore the agroforestry mosaic of Mas Marès, combining vineyards with areas of scrubland, pastures, cork oaks and dry-stone walls. This way of managing the land supports biodiversity and helps maintain a diverse, thriving and resilient landscape.

The vineyards, cultivated fields and grazing areas create open spaces with low fuel loads that break up the continuity of the vegetation. In this way, the Mas Marès landscape acts as a natural firebreak and a protective buffer for the urbanised area of Roses, helping to control and stop the spread of wildfires, as was demonstrated during the fire of February 2022.

Old fashioned Harvest

Step into a Traditional Harvest!

Enjoy an authentic and fun experience for the whole family! Join us to learn how wine was made in the early 20th century — by stomping grapes with your feet and connecting with the land and its traditions.

Meeting point: 10:00 AM at Celler Espelt, Vilajuïga.

Duration: 4 hours

What will we do?

We’ll walk together from the winery to the Mas Espelt vineyards (a 15-minute easy walk, suitable for all ages).
Harvest grapes by hand and fill up the traditional baskets (semals).
We’ll carry them to the era and press the grapes — just like in the old days — with our feet!
All accompanied by live music and a delicious local snack to recharge.

What to bring:

Comfortable shoes and light clothing.
Water to stay hydrated .
If the tramuntana wind is blowing , bring a jacket or long sleeves .
